News from the Assistant Principal
School / Home Communication
We are trying to ensure our communications are as efficient as possible. Newsletters are our most important form of communication each fortnight as they advise current and upcoming happenings. We are very aware that parents do not want to be constantly plagued by Compass Alerts, so we are discriminating in posting. The school will no longer be contacting parents to remind families about the need to consent to excursions. This takes up an inordinate amount of very precious admin time that needs to be allocated to other tasks. If you have any suggestions on how we can improve school / home communication please email me kim.hogan@mn.catholic.edu.au
After school pick up
Early next term our Year 3 students will be working with me to construct videos on safe arrival and pick up using our 3 gates. These videos will highlight the purpose for the different gates :-
- Newcastle St – Bus
- Church Gate – parent pick up
- Anderson St – Kiss and Drop
We are creating these videos as we want to ensure that we are doing everything possible to maximise student safety. From next term, the kiss and drop zone of an afternoon is for students who are able to enter the pickup vehicle on their own from the kerbside and put on their own seatbelt. This is in line with road safety recommendations. If this is a skill your child is still learning then they will need to utilize the Church Gate for parent pick up.
School Uniform
A reminder that from the commencement of Term 4 students will be in full summer uniform. Students are to wear polishable black leather school shoes NOT boots.
Student’s Hair: Needs to be neat and clean. Long hair must be secured back from the face for safety and hygiene reasons. Ribbons and scrunchies must be blue and/or gold.
Jewellery: Is not part of the school uniform. Children with pierced ears should wear studs and not sleepers for safety reasons.
Sunsafety
As we head into summer we really need to be mindful of the increased ultraviolet rays and potential harm to your child’s skin. Could you please assist us in ensuring:
- Your child’s hat is named so that if it goes missing it can be returned to them
- Your child always has a hat in their bag
- Your child has sunscreen in their bag, as applying sunscreen before lunch and recess will be part of their daily routine
God Bless and safe holidays
