Dear Parents and Friends of St Kevin's,
The 2022 school year has come to an end. It is the first full year of school for our Year 1 and 2 students since they started “Big School”! Congratulations you made it!!!
I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who makes St Kevin’s such an amazing community. Together – parents, students and staff have achieved great things. We take this time to reflect on our academic success in NAPLAN, our social gatherings such as our disco and our faith journeys, all of which are individual and unique. It takes a village to raise a child, and we are one awesome village.
So, I sign off for 2022, wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Holy New Year. Enjoy this time with family and friends. Travel safe and return to us in 2023 refreshed and ready to meet the new year and its challenges and adventures.

Colour Run Advice #5
Date: Thursday 15th December, 2022
Time: 9 am - 2:15pm.
Transport: Students will be transported to and from Wilkinson Park by seatbelted coach. Parents may elect to pick their child(ren) up from Wilkinson Park at 2pm. Students returning to school by coach must bring a towel, change of clothes and a bag to place wet clothes in.
Food: The P& F will be running a BBQ on the day. There will also be a cake stall, drinks and lolly stall. As students will be picnicking throughout the day, please pack nutritious snacks and plenty of water.
Dress: Students are encouraged to wear a white or light-coloured T-Shirt on the day. Please be advised that whilst the Colour Run company advise that colour does wash out of clothes, we recommend that students wear old clothes that possible hard to remove stains will not cause an issue. Students must wear socks and closed in shoes. Students must wear their school hat.
Sunsafety: Students must bring their OWN sunscreen in their bag and insect repellent. The school is unable to provide sunscreen because of possible allergic reactions. Students will be asked to apply their own sunscreen every 2 hours under the direct supervision of classroom teachers. Students who do not bring sunscreen will unfortunately have to remain at school under supervision.
End of Year
On Wednesday we celebrated the end of the school year with a liturgy and awards. We also announced the new school leaders for 2023. Congratulations to Ava, Logan, Jamie and Reid. I know you will all serve the St Kevin’s community admirably and will represent our Josephite charisms of:
- Courage
- Gratitude
- Resilience
- Simplicity
- Inclusion
- Service
- Faith
Thank you to those families, staff and parishioners who attended the Year 6 Graduation Mass on Sunday. It was fantastic to be able to celebrate such a wonderful group of children who have finished their primary school education at St Kevin's. We wish them and their families all the best in High School and the adventures ahead.
The Season of Advent
On Sunday we moved into the third week of Advent and we lit the candle which symbolises joy. The previous two candles symbolise hope and faith. In the upcoming fourth week the candle symbolises peace.
I wish you all a holy Christmas filled with joy and peace spent with your precious families. I thank you for the privilege of serving and belonging to the St Kevin's community in my roles of Acting Religious Education Coordinator, Class Teacher and Gifted Education Mentor.
God Bless
Fiona Stretton
Acting Religious Education Coordinator

Thank you to everyone in our school community for your continued support of Aboriginal Education at St Kevin’s this year. The children have continued their learning about Aboriginal history and culture and celebrated many key events.
Our school is developing its Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and work will continue on this next year. We are working in consultation with Reconciliation Australia as we develop our RAP.
We are an independent not-for profit organisation, the lead body for reconciliation in Australia. We promote and facilitate reconciliation by building relationships, respect and trust between the wider Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. (Reconciliation Australia website https://www.reconciliation.org.au/) |
A Reconciliation Action Plan is a formal commitment to reconciliation. As such it is not just a series of motherhood statements that sound good, but it documents how we will strengthen relationships, respect and opportunities in the classroom, around the school and with the community. It will be revised and updated annually to ensure it accurately reflects our reconciliation journey and priorities. Over 1100 corporate, government and not-for-profit organisations have made a formal commitment to reconciliation through the RAP program.
Our Maitland-Newcastle Catholic Diocese released its RAP in August. I look forward to working with our school community next year as we finalise our inaugural RAP.
I hope you and your family enjoy a well-earned relaxing break over holiday period. Wishing you and your mob a happy, safe and Holy Christmas and a fantastic New Year.
See you in 2023.
A HUGE thank you to those who finalised or have made alternative arrangements to have their fees finalilsed. It is much appreciated.
2023 School Fee Information Forms
If you have not returned your 2023 School Fee Information Form, your child will be sent home with one today. Please complete it and return it to the school office ASAP. Please make a considered choice regarding your payment frequency as this will need to be adhered to in 2023.
School Departure Forms
Any child who is departing St Kevin's at the end of the 2023 school year to go to another school, needs to complete and return a School Departure Form (see below). School Fees need to be settled, home readers and library books returned. Thank you for your cooperation in returning these forms.
Thank you to all the students, staff and parents who have supported me in my role in the office as I transitioned to full-time this year. We have a wonderful school community at St Kevin's!
Have a happy, healthy and holy Christmas!
