Dear Parents and Friends of St Kevin's,
Welcome to another term of learning and fun at St Kevin’s. Term 2 is where a lot of heavy lifting is done for each subject as we complete planned learning for semester 1. Term 1 saw us establish our routines and expectations and acceptable levels of behaviour. When the behaviour and well-being of students is being met both at school and home, then the learning flourishes. I look forward to observing this flourishing, learning environment, and ask that you too as parents engage in your child’s learning through asking the following questions.
- What are you learning in .........(pick a subject)
- How is your learning going?
- How do you know that your learning is going that way?
- Why do think you’re learning about that?
- Where do you go for help in your learning?
- What is your goal for your learning in ......?
The students are familiar with these questions and should be able to give you some insight into how they are doing at school.
Year 3 and 4 are going to the zoo overnight to enhance their learning, and upon returning to school will complete various tasks to demonstrate their learning. I look forward to reading their information reports on an animal of choice next week.
Enjoy the weekend where we all continue to learn at netball, football, soccer, drama, dance, by participating, following rules, displaying sportsmanship and teamwork. We are always learning.

This comment is often made by visiting teachers and new members of our community and we would like to share it with you. Casual/visiting teachers and new members of our community regularly comment on the beautiful manners of our students, their ability to listen and take turns plus how eager they are to learn. This doesn’t happen by accident. As we always say, it takes a village to raise a child, and we are an awesome village. So, thank you and congratulations to all the parents and teachers who are modelling and ensuring that good manners and great listening skills are part of our children's/students' everyday lives and are expected each and every day in all that we do. Your hard work is reaping great benefits and creating a very positive reputation in the wider community.

Dear Families,
Welcome back to Term 2! I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable break, with 3 public holidays – what a bonus! As we embark on this new term, I am excited about the opportunities and experiences that lie ahead for our students.
Upcoming Events and Important Dates
- Mother’s Day
Please see attached flyer from the P & F regarding Mother's Day stall and raffle tickets available through the QKR app.
Focus for Term 2
- Attendance: Regular attendance is crucial for student success. Please ensure your child attends school every day unless they are unwell.
- Winter Uniform: As the weather cools, students should transition to their winter uniforms. By Monday June 2 all students should be in full winter school uniform.
- Parent-Teacher Meetings: Scheduled for Week 10. Please feel free to reach out to your child’s classroom teacher well before this to discuss your child’s progress.
Community Involvement
- Volunteers Needed: We are looking for parent volunteers to assist with our school canteen. Canteen helpers need to be approved through the Diocese as a volunteer and complete the 1 hour free online food handling course. We are planning a launch for our canteen in Week 3, more on this later. We welcome Lynn Dover-Ong to our school team as our Canteen Supervisor.
Flexi Schools
- Restrictions with our banking authority have resulted in us needing to discontinue qkr as a means of parent payment from Week 3. Tomorrow you will receive information regarding FlexiSchools. We continue you using qkr for Mother’s Day and uniform sales for the next week.
Communication
- After consultation with our parent community, we have decided to send home a term overview in Week 1 of each term. We look forward to your feedback. These overviews will be sent out with the Week at A Glance this week.
Thank you for your continued support. Let's make Term 2 a fantastic term for all!
God Bless

St Kevin's Cardiff: Living the Josephite Charism
At St Kevin's Primary School, Cardiff, we are proud to embrace the Josephite Charism in everything we do. Inspired by the teachings of St Mary MacKillop, we focus on the values of faith, service, and simplicity to help our students grow into kind, thoughtful, and caring individuals.
Faith is thriving at St Kevin's. Through prayer, reflection, and liturgical celebrations, students are deepening their spiritual connection and recognising God's presence in their lives and the world around them. The Josephite spirit encourages us all to care for one another and foster a culture of respect and kindness.
We’re equally proud of how our community reflects the Josephite value of inclusivity. By celebrating cultural diversity and integrating Indigenous perspectives, students gain a deep respect for the traditions and stories of others—something St Mary MacKillop herself cherished.
Our school vision—a Catholic Community nurturing mind, heart, and spirit while following the light of Christ—is at the heart of all we do and is closely linked with the Josephite Charism:
- Nurturing Mind: We celebrate every child’s unique abilities and encourage a love for learning and discovery through modern and engaging teaching practices.
- Nurturing Heart: With Jesus at the centre of our lives, we focus on building relationships based on honesty, compassion, and integrity, creating a caring and supportive school community.
- Nurturing Spirit: Guided by our faith, we express love and compassion through our actions and demonstrate stewardship in caring for God's creation.
By living the Josephite Charism and embracing our vision, we help our students to grow into future leaders who will make a meaningful difference in their communities.
